The smallest wooden mallet that Stanley offered between 1863 and 1929, this antique No. 1 mallet is in good condition. It is made of hickory, 10-1/2″ long with a 5″ x 3″ head. Classic Stanley design. The number 1 stamp on the face of the mallet is only barely visible. There is a silver/gray colored paint in the grain on some parts and a couple of small chips from light use. The tool marks from the lathe are still present on the ends of the handles, which is typical of Stanley mallets. The hang hole bored into the end of the handle is user-added and did not come this way originally. The mallet does break down by sliding the head down towards the bottom of the handle and there is a small piece of tape on the end of the handle to cause the handle to protrude above the head as it would have been originally, but can be removed without causing any issues (only cosmetic). Weighs 1 pound, 4 ounces. A great collector piece for any Stanley Tools or Hand Tool collection.
