This 19th Century Stanley No. 12 Lignum vitae square head mallet an early style produced by Stanley in the 2nd half of the 19th century. There is some wear, as well as some chipping at the edges of the faces and some checking. The number stamp is on the handle, rather than on the head, which is consistent with other examples from this era. This earlier style also has a curvier handle than later types post 1900. The handle is original and [I believe] made of hickory. It has a nice contrast of sapwood and heartwood that Lignum vitae is so known for. A great addition to any hand-tool or Stanley Tools tool collection.
