This 19th Century Stanley No. 11 Lignum vitae square head mallet is an early style produced by Stanley circa 1880-1900. Most No. 11 Stanley mallets found today are the later type which have a shorter 10.5″ handle. However, earlier styles have been observed with the longer 13″ handle that the No. 12 an 13 were equipped with. There is some very minor wear, and minor checking. This earlier style also has a curvier handle than later types post 1900. The handle is original and [I believe] made of hickory. It has a nice beautiful contrast of golden sapwood and chocolatey heartwood that Lignum vitae is so known for. A great addition to any hand-tool or Stanley Tools tool collection.
