This 19th Century Stanley No. 10 Hickory square head mallet is the earliest style produced by Stanley in the 1860’s and 1870’s (1878 at the latest). When Stanley began offering these in the 1860’s they were slightly smaller than later versions. Most No. 10 Stanley mallets found today are the later type which have 7″ x 4″ heads. However, during the first 2 decades of production (until about 1878), the heads were inch shorter, about 6 inches long. There is some wear, as well as some chipping at the edges of the faces. The number stamp is on the handle, rather than on the head, which is consistent with other examples from this era. This earlier style also has a curvier handle than later types post 1900. The handle is original and [I believe] made of hickory. . A great addition to any hand-tool or Stanley Tools tool collection.

12.5 inches in length and weighs 1lb 8.5oz
